HOW TO GAIN A HEALTHIER YOU

We live in a society that values productivity and rewards hard work. This usually means pushing yourself to the max.

Although it is good to strive to do your best whether at work, home or whatever activity you are doing; pushing yourself to the max can also cause harm if you don’t give yourself a break every now and then.

It is a good idea to stop occasionally, to take time to smell the roses.

When you take on too much it can take a toll on your body, mind and spirit.

You may start to feel some aches and pains in your body because of tension from stress. You might notice an inability to stay focused on tasks, a decrease in your energy, and an overall feeling of fatigue.

You might feel guilty if you take time out just to relax and do absolutely nothing because society has taught us that laziness is not acceptable. We tend to harshly judge lazy people.

The truth is that it is to your benefit when you take time to be lazy every now and then. This will improve your productivity as well as create a better body, mind, and spirit balance.

When you take this time out you are recharging your body, mind and spirit. When your body, mind and spirit feel good and uplifting, then you have the energy to take care of others.

It is not selfish when you take care of yourself first by taking a break and being ‘lazy’. By helping yourself first then you can help others. It is more selfish if you don’t take care of yourself.

If you have ever flown on the plane, you have heard flight attendants instructing you to put on your oxygen mask on first before assisting others. If you assist others without wearing your oxygen mask, then both you and the person you are assisting will pass out. You end up helping neither yourself nor the other person.

It is important for you to take care of your health first by taking care of your body, mind, and spirit. If you don’t have your health you won’t be able to go to work to make money, go places, or take care of yourself let alone take care of others. If you want to take care of other people, you have to start taking care of yourself first.

Remember taking care of yourself first is not selfish. This is called Self-Care, and this means that you are taking care of yourself in order to be able to care for others. Self-Care means you are creating a balance where you are taking care of yourself first and then when you are able then you take care of others where you are neither selfless nor self-centered.

  • Practice Self-Care (pamper yourself…you can pamper yourself without spending any money)
  • Take time off and know that it is okay to be ‘lazy’ every now and then
  • Set healthy boundaries
  • Eat healthy foods

  • Remember to breathe…take nice slow deep breaths throughout your day
  • Participate and do healthy activities that will uplift your spirits

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO EMBRACE AND CELEBRATE THE COMPLETE YOU?

As humans we all have our own strengths and weaknesses. We have things that we love or dislike about ourselves and issues that we may wish to change.

On the outside you may seem to be a happy person who laughs a lot or can easily make other people laugh, but on the inside, you are fighting your demons of anxiety, depression, or trauma from abuse.

You may show off a persona of confidence out in the public, but on the inside, you are full of insecurities and carry doubts in your own abilities.

You can show you’re a patient person, but deep down you know you are quick to a temper.

You are taught that you need to focus on your good side, your strengths, and change your negative side, which are your weaknesses, to become better. That can mean ways to decrease your feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, and so forth.

Sometimes you need to embrace your feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, etc. by understanding these feelings and know that it is truly okay to have these feelings rather than suppressing them. You can only make changes when you are ready.

An example that most people would say is that anxiety is bad. That can be true, especially if it negatively impacts your life and lifestyle. Know that it is okay for you to feel anxious and that you don’t have to work so hard to change.

You can work through the process with the help of an appropriate professional such as a licensed professional or a life coach depending upon the severity of your anxiety when you are ready and at your own pace and not based upon on other people telling you that you need help.

Don’t be afraid of your weaknesses or feel guilty, bad, or inferior for having those weaknesses or negative feelings. They are there to help you to grow and become stronger when you are ready to make necessary changes and you choose when it is time to let them go.

The overall big picture is that sometimes you need to embrace and go through the darkness, the dark period of your life and experience that in order to reach the light and experience the good things in your life. Embracing your negativity or weakness and working through them helps you to get to the positives and gain strengths in your life.

WHAT DOES ‘PURA VIDA’ MEAN AND HOW CAN YOU USE IT IN YOUR DAILY LIFE?

Pura Vida means “simple life” or “pure life.” Simply put it means to Live in the Moment. Good day or bad day or something not going your way…it doesn’t matter. The Pura Vida spirit lived in me when I saw three species of monkeys, sloths up in trees, and when it rained (down poured) during our visit in rainforest on the aerial tram ride.

Pura Vida means ‘Live In the Moment’

We currently live in a world where we expect fast results. We can search for something on the Internet and we can expect to find answers about it in less than 30 seconds. We want certain things and expect it will happen as we want it too. What happens when it doesn’t go your way? Are you feeling sad? Anger? Defeated?

When You Live In The Moment…

When you live in the moment you start to appreciate that certain events occur for a reason just like nature. Even in nature there is good and bad events, but what may seem like a bad event actually turns out good. For example, forest fires would be seen as a bad moment; however, new plants and trees can grow from this natural event. Pura Vida spirit lives in nature.

How You Can Make Changes To Live In The Moment….

From a Law of Attraction perspective, you ‘attract to your life whatever you put your energy, attention or focus on’. So being MINDFUL of what you are saying and doing is key to moving into a positive space.

  • Notice what seemingly ‘bad events’ have turned out well for you and what good events have even become better.
  • Live and be in the moment because the only time you have is right now.
  • Express Gratitude daily – journal if that appeals to you.
  • Take time to get out into Nature – it’s one of the best ways to connect and release stress.
  • Breathe deeply and slowly to embrace the moment.

LIFE LESSON FROM A CHINESE BAMBOO TREE

Do you know the story about the Chinese Bamboo Tree? There are always two sides to a story. Those who will find inspiration in this story and those who might disagree. Here is the story and you can decide for yourself…

How do your grow Chinese Bamboo Tree?

  • Plant the seed in the soil
  • Nurture the seed by giving it water, sunshine, and fertilizer
  • Wait for it to grow

But what happened…

  • First year there is no visible sign of activity
  • Second year no growth above the soil
  • Third and Fourth year still nothing and still waiting for growth. You strongly wonder if your efforts will ever be rewarded.
  • Fifth year-A miracle! There is growth and not just a small growth, but an abundant growth! The Chinese Bamboo Tree grows 80 feet in just six weeks!

What is the lesson that you can learn from the Chinese Bamboo Tree?

While you might not have seen growth in the first 4 years the tree was developing a strong root system-a strong foundation to be able to sustain its growth.

When you and I are going through our own personal growth-our progress is usually slow and it can be frustrating and unrewarding, but it is worth it! Especially when we can be patient and persistent. We are building a strong foundation to sustain our own expanded growth.

Here is another point of view…

Some people see the purpose of the Chinese Bamboo Tree story as a way to make us feel better when we’re getting lousy results in our lives. We succumb to the belief that spending more TIME doing the wrong things will somehow create the RESULTS we want.

We have more power than that…Take Control. Take Action. If we’re not getting the results we want, try something new.

Here is My viewpoint about the Chinese Bamboo Tree (feel free to disagree, but please honor my opinion)

  • If you sow a seed in bad soil it will not grow even if you cultivate it properly. If you sow the seed in weed, the weed will choke the growth of the seed. If you plant the seed in good soil and cultivate it properly it will grow into a healthy tree. You have to be aware of where you are planting your seed and sometimes you have to move your seed to a better soil in order for it to grow.
  • If you plant your seed and in this case the seed is your INTENTION in negative feelings (which is like weed) then your negative feelings will choke out your good intention. When you become aware of this and replant your seed of intention by using good feelings and when negative feelings come up you remove it by using tools such as gratitude, walk in nature, listen to music, meditation and you continue to nurture it, then your seed will begin to grow. Nurturing and growing your intention will require patience and persistence.

WHEN UNIVERSE OR SPIRIT RESPONDS – 3 TIPS TO RELEASE WORRY & STRESS

As I build my business I often noticed that my thoughts are about if I am truly being authentic and serving people with integrity. Part of being authentic and serving with integrity in my mind is practicing what you teach. There are some people who are able to teach and give great advice, but when it comes time to practice what they teach, they fail to do so.

I questioned myself if I was truly practicing what I was teaching to other people as I want to be authentic and serve with integrity. The Universe or Spirit responded to my question by giving me the opportunity to see how I would respond to the flooding situation and if I practiced what I teach. I am happy and grateful for the Universe and Spirit for this opportunity because I can truly say that I did practice what I teach.

3TIPS TO RELEASE WORRY AND STRESS:

1. GRATITUDE. Even when a situation looks bleak there is something to be grateful for. Anyone who experienced flooding knows what a mess it can be. By focusing on gratitude, you realize there is something positive that can come out of a bad situation.

I am grateful that there were professionals who came out to help clean up the mess and guided me to other professionals who were willing to help resolve the flooding issue to prevent it from happening again. I am grateful that I will be able to set up my office as I want it to look instead of carving out a space for myself as I had previously done.

2. GO OUTSIDE. Connect with nature and beauty. This surrounding may inspire you to create beauty in your current situation.

I am taking this opportunity to work outside and enjoy the nice weather. I enjoyed working in my office that I never thought about working outside until now. Since working outside I have been inspired with ideas for my office that I had not thought of before.

3. BREATHE. Taking nice slow deep breaths is so important because it brings oxygen to the brain which helps the brain to focus and function.

I have noticed that when I sit outside it so easy for me to take slow deep breaths. It is as if my brain and body crave the fresh air that I am breathing in. Hopefully more cities and countries realize the importance of fresh air and will find ways for their residents and citizens to enjoy fresh air.

This is currently what my office looks like after the flood. I have to wait until the end of June before my office will be put back to together again. There is a quote about ‘All good things come to those who wait.’ I rather have everything done well than fast.

CELEBRATE LOVE AND YOU

Here are a few questions…

  • Are you being kind and loving to yourself and to other people?
  • Do you use kind and loving words when you speak to yourself and to others?
  • Do you tend to criticize yourself and others?
  • Are you more critical towards yourself than you are towards other people?

You are likely to use more kind and loving words towards others than to yourself. When someone makes a mistake…the same mistake that you did you most likely would comfort that person, show your support, and use positive words to help boost their mood.

What happens when you make a mistake…the same mistake made by another person? Do you beat yourself up for it? Do you criticize yourself? Do you end up talking down to yourself? Why do you have such harsh judgment on yourself? Why do you beat yourself up when you don’t even think of doing the same towards other people? You don’t even think about treating other people as badly as you treat yourself.

Here is the message that I think is important for you to know…YOU ARE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND. If you are not mean to your friends, then why are you mean to yourself? If you can talk to your friends with kindness, compassion, and love then why not do the same for yourself? You are your own best friend so treat yourself with the same kindness, compassion, and love that you give and share with others.

  • Giving yourself ONE gift or treat that you Love to celebrate any small or big successes that you achieved for that day.

Why do New Year’s Resolution often fail?

Here are a few questions…

You may have fallen prey as most people do and make New Year’s Resolution Every. Single. Year. You start out with good intentions such as eating healthier, exercising more, spending more time with family/friends, and so forth. As each day goes by and into the months those good intentions start to slip away and soon the exercise equipment you intended to use at the beginning of the year is now perhaps being used as a place to hang your clothes.

Your intentions are good, but they aren’t great or best for you. Perhaps you based your good intentions on what you think you should or ought to do or what you think other people want you to do.NAVIGATING POINTS TO CREATING MORE POSITIVE LONG-LASTING CHANGES FOR THE NEW YEAR AND BEYOND:

1) What do you value in your life? What is priceless in your life?
For example, do you value your health, family, independence, fun, wealth, career, etc.?
Write down a list of what you value in your life.

2) Why do you value those items that you listed in your life?
For example, if you wrote down health: Why do you value your health? Is your health important so you can have more time with your family or you can go to work to provide for yourself and/or your family? If you wrote down money: why do you value money? Is it to pay your bills or allow you to travel? If you wrote down time: why do you value time? Is it to spend more time with family/friends or more freedom of time to do as you wish? You get the idea.
Write down your answers to your ‘why’ you value those items you listed. In other words write down your reasons next to the values on your list.

3) Make your goals align with what you want and why you want it.
If you’re not sure where to start with making goals or find it difficult to make or keep goals, then start with daily goals. Once you are comfortable with making daily goals, then step up to weekly goals, then to monthly goals, then yearly, 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year goals.

Here is the key in order to make and keep goals, you first need to understand what goals are.

I define GOALS as the following:

G: Ground (level you are currently at). What do you really want?

  • This isn’t about what you think you should want or what other people think you should want.
  • For example, if you choose losing weight as a goal, ask yourself is this what I really want or is it something I want because everyone else thinks I should and need to lose weight?

O: Objectives/Opportunities to Obtain. Why do you want to achieve what you want? Be honest. 

  • If your goal is to lose weight, then why do you want to lose weight? What is your reason/objective for losing weight or reason/objective for your set target weight loss?
  • What is the reason or rationale or objective for obtaining your goal?

A: Appropriate Actions. Take one appropriate action at a time to attract and obtain your objectives/opportunities.

  • For example, if you are looking to lose weight then start by taking appropriate actions such as replacing junk food with one fresh fruit or vegetable a day. Skipping meals to lose weight would be considered inappropriate actions as this will cause more harm than good to your body function.
  • Put your action on your calendar/schedule as you would with any of your important appointments. Your objectives and opportunities become mere entertainment when appropriate actions are not taken.

L: Leverage (level up). Once you accomplished one action then add another action and keep building as you take one step level at a time.

  • For example, with the weight loss, once you’ve accomplished the goal of replacing one fresh fruit or vegetable with junk food at least one time a day every day, then you can add another action such as walking around the block or walking for 15 minutes a day.
  • The idea is that once you accomplished one action you add another action and you keep building upon one action on top of the other actions to lead to your success.

S: Success. When you learned, gained and/or achieved your results.

  • As you worked on your goal of losing weight you most likely also noticed some other added health benefits such as improve energy as well as learned better and more effective ways to take care of yourself.
  • If you happened to have stumbled or failed (as most people often do) on one of your steps, actions, and/or on your goals along the way you still succeed when you learned and grew from the experience.

Today Is Your Day To Be BOLD

In order to be Bold and take bold action steps. You must be willing to be courageous and take a leap of faith by choosing to let go of your old patterns of thinking.

Choose right now to give yourself permission to shift or change your old mindset.

Choose right now to let go of your old beliefs and to choose new beliefs that resonates with you that will lead you to take bold action steps that will lead you to the path you want to go and make better improvements in your life.

The bold choices you choose to make will not be easy at times, but if you choose to stick with them you will be grateful that you did.

You are going to feel at times like you are running a marathon or competing in the Iron man or even climbing Mount Everest.

The first step is to a take bold action by choosing to believe in YOUR NEW BELIEFS that resonate with you. This will lead you to achieving your goals.

Here’s an analogy…in the movie, ‘Peter Pan’. Tinker Bell told Peter Pan that if he didn’t believe in her, then she would die and disappear, and Peter Pan’s goals and dreams die with her. Think of Tinker Bell as your beliefs and if you don’t believe in your beliefs then your goals and dreams will not come to fruition.

THREE NAVIGATING POINTS TO BE BOLD :

  • Shift your mindset: Either your mind is set, or you can set your mind to something different. You can choose to believe in your old beliefs that “you are stuck and no matter what you do nothing works out in your favor” or you can choose to shift your mindset and believe in your new belief that “you are able to make changes easily that benefits you and others.”
  • Write down the Bold Action step that you are going to take: Write down what action you are going to take and by when. Put a date by when you are going to take your action; this way you keep and complete your action as you would with all of your other appointments.
  • Be consistent in believing in your new beliefs: Choose to be consistent in believing in your new beliefs. Your old beliefs have been with you for so long like an old habit and in order to change or break a habit you must be mindful to replace your new beliefs with old beliefs until your new beliefs become your new habit.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE PEACE (OF MIND)?

The following are definitions of PEACE (of mind) from a Google search:

  • “freedom from disturbance; tranquility.”
  • “freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions”
  • “mental or emotional calm”
  • “calm and quiet; freedom from worry or annoyance”

Wouldn’t you LOVE to have “freedom from worry or annoyance? Is it really possible to shift your mindset from WORRY to PEACE (of mind)?
The answer is YES! If you are ready to gain more PEACE (of mind) then the following five steps will help you to gain more PEACE:

FIVE NAVIGATING POINTS TO PEACE:

  • Prioritize You: Know YOU are important and are worthy. So you must make yourself a priority by setting healthy boundaries with yourself. Especially with other people and completing tasks or activities that are important to you. You set your own boundaries and tasks or activities by what is important to you and what you want and not by what other people want. You do self-care which means you balance taking care of yourself first and then taking care of others. No more feeling Weight of the World on your shoulders. It’s okay to say No!
  • Easy On Yourself: Be easy on yourself when you make mistakes. Use kind, gentle, positive words when you speak to yourself. You wouldn’t use criticism or harsh words if you talked to a scared friend, family member or child so why use criticism or harsh words on yourself? Be easy on yourself with your thoughts. Don’t let your thoughts run away like an out of control train. Be mindful of your thoughts to avoid being Out of Control.
  • Awareness: Be aware of whether you are reacting or responding to a situation. When you respond to a situation you see it as a lesson. There is no one to blame just an opportunity to grow and learn from regardless of whether the situation is good or bad. Say good-bye to Reckless Behavior.
  • Choice: You have choices in your beliefs and thoughts which can positively or negatively impact your perceptions. Your beliefs are not set in stone so you can choose to have beliefs that resonate with you. If you think and believe that life is hard, then your perception is that your life is hard and full of challenges and obstacles. If you think and believe that life is easy, then your perception is that your life is easy and that there is always a solution to remove every obstacle. Break free from your old Responsibility to your Beliefs.
  • Empower You: Know that YOU are far more powerful than any situation, condition, or circumstance. You are a Hero in your story since you have gone on a hero’s journey in which you survived your situation. You are an inspiration and you can inspire others who might be going through the same thing that you went through and survived. Acknowledge You…that It All Starts and Ends with You, and the path to Empower YOU.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO NURTURE YOURSELF?

First you must believe that you are important and that means that you must take care of your SELF FIRST before taking care of other people.

If you think or feel that taking care of yourself first is selfish, then think of it this way…you can’t take care of other people when you are stressed and ill.

You do a better job of taking care of other people when you are relaxed and well, and if you are stressed and ill, then how can do your best to take care of other people?

Nurture your SELF First.

SEVEN NAVIGATING POINTS TO NURTURE SELF:

  • Celebrate any small or big successes or wins: Treat yourself to a small gift or treat to celebrate Yourself for any small or big successes or wins that you’ve had for that day.
  • Spend time in nature: Take time to ‘smell the roses’ and appreciate your natural surroundings.
  • Eat and sleep well: Eat a healthy balanced diet and get at least eight hours of sleep each day to help maintain a good energy level.
  • Drink plenty of water: Your body is made of approximately 70% of water so it is important to replenish your daily water loss unless contraindicated by health issues.
  • Be mindful of your thoughts and actions: Be aware of what you are thinking and the actions that you are taking towards yourself and others. Be kind and compassionate to your SELF and to others.
  • Exercise: Take time to stretch, walk and move to keep your body moving and avoid being stiff.
  • Laugh: ‘Laughter is the best medicine’ since it helps to reduce stress.
